Flying Triangle Hoax - Milk Hill, Pewsey, Wiltshire
This sighting occurred at 10:36 pm on the 6th of July 2006 during my week-long night time crop circle vigil. To the casual observer, the sight of this brightly lit boomerang shaped object swooping over the Pewsey Road from the overlooking hillside, could easily and genuinely be misidentified as a flying triangle … and this was obviously the intention of those flying it.
The object was in reality a moderately sized boomerang shaped kite with lights attached along its whole length. The above image is a digital still taken from a short video taken at the time. In super nightshot mode two people could be seen flying it from a nearby hillside. Many cars intermittently passed this kite that night - and the hoaxers were obviously playing to their automotive audiences.
All the above shots taken using a sony trv140 camcorder at reduced shutter speed and manually reduced exposure (to reduce video gain dark noise).
The points of interest from this incident are that yes, mischievous people do go to the trouble of trying to hoax some sightings, experienced UFO/paranormal investigators can easily see them for the hoaxes that they are … and, most importantly, from the limited number of reports for this from that night - the members of the general public who see such nocturnal naughtiness very, very few are taken in or report them. It would seem that Joe Public is a far better and far more objective observer than some would have you believe.
